Máximo Quiles achieved a magnificent victory in the Portuguese Grand Prix, his third in his first year in Moto3. This victory makes Quiles the rookie with the most points and podium finishes in a season, surpassing David Alonso and Pedro Acosta. Quiles' victory keeps him in contention for the runner-up spot: with 263 points and nine podium finishes, he remains third in the overall standings, eight points behind second place.
The CFMOTO Aspar Team saw Máximo Quiles complete one of his best races of the season. The rookie in the small category started the Portuguese event from the second row of the grid and, after a great start, moved into second place after the first corner. The leading group was large in the early laps, which, combined with the high pace of all the riders, led to constant changes in position. Among them, Quiles dropped to fifth place, but before the halfway point of the race, he was back in podium position. With nine laps to go, the CFMOTO Aspar Team rider took the lead and defended it against his only rival in the fight for the runner-up spot, Ángel Piqueras. From that moment on, he set his own pace in the final laps, which were not for the faint-hearted, and opened up a gap that allowed him to cross the finish line almost two seconds ahead of the runner-up.
On the other hand, Dennis Foggia had an unexpected end to the Portuguese Grand Prix after the good feelings the Italian had had throughout the weekend. The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider was relegated in the early laps and was forced to fight his way back into the points. With one lap to go, he managed to break into the top 15 to finish in fourteenth position.
The intermediate category race kicked off a very positive Sunday of racing for the CFMOTO Aspar Team. Dani Holgado and David Alonso made a good start to position themselves in the front group in the early laps. The Colombian recovered six positions and remained in third place, determined to prevent the leaders from increasing their advantage. In the final laps, the CFMOTO Aspar Team rider was able to increase his pace and reduce the gap from two seconds to seven tenths in just a few laps. In a final lap to remember, Alonso came close to taking second place, but crossed the finish line in third to claim his fifth podium of the season, his third in a row.
His teammate Dani Holgado completed a demanding race at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. Despite losing a few positions in the early laps, halfway through the race Holgado regained the good feeling he had experienced throughout the weekend and overtook several of his rivals to finish the Portuguese Grand Prix in seventh position. Holgado leaves Portimao with a 35-point lead over his teammate David Alonso, confirming his status as the best rookie in the intermediate category. He has also secured sixth place in the overall standings with 188 points, out of reach of seventh-placed David Alonso.
