2025 was a stellar Grand Prix for CFMOTO. Maximo Quiles ruled Moto3 and David Alonso triumphed in Moto2 for a memorable team double. Expectations were high again for the weekend as the weather was breezy and warm. Through qualification Quiles was consistently quick and missed out on Pole Position by a blink of an eye! Just 0.024 of a second! P2 on the grid was still very solid real estate for the Spaniard. Marco Morelli was not far in P7. In Moto2 the times were incredibly close. Less than one second split 17 riders in Q2. Dani Holgado found his way to P4 with a lap attack 0.190 from Pole with Alonso close; P7 (the head of the third row) and 0.277 of a second away.
Moto3 thundered around Balaton for 20 laps. Max attacked early leader David Almansa and took the lead on the eighth lap. From that moment Quiles was never headed and stretched his margin to seize the chequered flag for the second year in a row. The result gave the Spaniard a 59-point lead in the championship (more than two races worth). Morelli slipped wide on the first corner and lost a lot of positions but then embarked on a comeback charge; reaching 7th in the classification (a late red flag meaning results were taken from lap 19 of 20). Thanks to his points in Hungary ‘MM’ is now up to 3rd in the world championship.
Max Quiles: “After Mugello I was really focused. I had this anger and I wanted to push it here in Hungary. It was great! I’m so happy to win again. The fifth one. Let’s see if we can make more victories with the team that are doing a great job. I hope everyone is OK after the red flag.”
Moto2 began with Daniel Holgado and David Alonso rushing together for the top five. Alonso pushed and probed for opportunities against his teammate and finally made the move with six laps (of 22) to go when Dani ran slightly adrift into Turn 1. David then narrowed his target to Senna Agius in 3rd and slimmed a three-second gap to nothing on the final circulation. Alonso missed just one more lap to make a lunge for a trophy and was only half a second away at the finish. P4 equalled his best result of 2026, achieved in two other Grands Prix (USA and Spain). Holgado passed the flag in 5th.
David Alonso: “I’m satisfied because I learnt a few things today: I kept a good rhythm in the middle of the race and was patient to pass Dani while I watched some of the different things he was doing. A good race overall. It was hot out there…so you really have to control the tyres and the whole package. A week off now and then full gas for Brno.”
MotoGP was just one of the motorcycle sport headlines at the weekend. Closer to Hungary – and swapping smooth slick tyres for knobbly offroad rubber – the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo celebrated its 30th anniversary. The race in Austria ploughs up a steep and daunting hill called the ‘Iron Giant’ in an authentic test of Enduro riding technicality and judgement. CFMOTO came to arguably the most famous extreme fixture of its kind with Mario Román Serrano steering a modified 450MT, and CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team with CFORCE 1000. The riders and CFMOTO were thrilled to be part of the pack and to battle against the high attrition rate of the contest as the Iron Prologue tends to claim many ‘victims’ in the demanding terrain and conditions. Results were not a priority for this landmark outing bit Mario rode superbly to rank 30th in the top 100 after two days and was fourth in the Twin cylinder category!
While in quad category, among 15 starters, both CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team riders claimed the top two positions. Antanas Kanopkinas set the fastest result among the quad riders. Adomas Gančierius finished second, 7.128 seconds behind.
MotoGP pauses for one week before another action-packed double-header, starting around the wide, attackable corners of Brno from June 19-21 and then onto the TT Circuit Assen in northern Holland.
